Las Vegas is known as “Sin City”. A place where you can be almost anyone you want and to do things you can never do back in Kansas. With our 24 hour casinos, all the nude, near nude and maybe nude review shows on the strip. Your walk down the boulevard is hampered by Mexicans handing out cards for “in room entertainment”.
We are also home to some of the worlds biggest and most luxurious gentlemen clubs. There are even a couple of clubs just for the ladies. With all this sex being thrown at you, you would have to believe its all legal, ok and a free for all. Well, you could think that, but it’s not.
One of the most popular questions we get and the number one search term for this website is; where are the legal dungeons in Las Vegas? So where are they??
Short answer: Not here. Long answer: There are a couple, but not really, maybe and someday, maybe.
Why No BDSM Clubs in Las Vegas??
The Law. In all ways, its the law that has stopped any progress on the kinky front. The state of Nevada links BDSM related behavior and activities next to abuse or assault. Consensual or non consensual, you are hurting someone and that’s not right.
There are several swing clubs that masquerade as a dungeon or offer some BDSM equipment and BDSM themed rooms, but they are mostly there for the tourists. Remember, this is a tourist town and we thrive on tourist money. Most tourists aren’t interested in a full blown dungeon experience. They want a quick escape into the dark side of their sexual fantasies with a safe return. A swing club provides all of that in one stop.
The last place to try to open up as a dungeon ran into a pile of legal problems. Mostly associated with the owner’s inability to tell the truth when asked. Many of us thought he had a good shot at getting legal. He had a nice set up, great equipment and his legal arguments had great merit and had he been on the up and up with his supporters, may have had a chance at changing the law or at least getting an exception.
But his lies kept catching up to him. He told lies about his lies. Even to a judge, he couldn’t keep his lies straight. From not knowing who ran his website to the sign on his building to not really knowing what he offered to the fact that he was located next to a childrens dance studio. It just kept getting worse every time he opened his mouth.
Where to Go to Play?
About as close as we get to an actual dungeon now would be the Green Door and The Power Exchange. The Green Door is a swing club aimed right at the tourist, offering a second floor “dungeon”. An area where people can go play a little master/slave games while others sit by, watch and play with themselves. The place has been since 1998 and play the game well, so they don’t get too much hassle from the authorities.
The newest contestant in the “who will be the next dungeon” is The Power Exchange. This place was started by the same people from the original Power Exchange in San Fransisco. They are in a great location. Right where the law says they should be for a dungeon or swing club. It’s just that its still not a legal dungeon. A swing club licensed as a tanning bed operation, but not a dungeon.
As a swing club, The Power Exchange offers a few rooms upstairs for BDSM like activities. Nothing fancy or solid enough to really do your thing. But it looks nice and its the best we have here thus far. The owners are learning how to play the Vegas power game and have been able to stay open awhile now. But it is still a swing club first and foremost.
We were there one time and was not impressed. From the blaring acid rock music, to the heat to the looky-loo’s so popular with a swing club. We just couldn’t get our groove on. But again, we are not into swing clubs. In their defense, it was a damn clean swing club. The only one in town you didn’t feel the need to strip off and burn your clothes immediately after visiting.
There is a local keyboard Dom who likes to act like a lawyer online and spout off about his lack of knowledge in this area. So he likes to scare everyone from even attempting to visit these establishments for fear of certain arrest and subsequent torture at the hands of the local police if you are ever caught near their front door.
In reality, you are as safe going to these clubs as you are any other sex related establishment in Las Vegas. As long as you understand it is in fact a swing club and not a dungeon, you are ok.
I have lived here almost ten years and in that time there has never been any raids or mass round up of the usual suspects of BDSM related clubs or activities. Just harassment in the legal arena.
Now the “dungeon” you found on craigslist or some forum board, those you may have a problem with. Someone’s home redecorated to be a dungeon or a swing club and opened to the public for a fee, they do tend to raid those operations.
